Tavasci Marsh and Tuzigoot NM

Tavasci Marsh (Tizigoot NM)Description: Both of these sites are within the boundaries of Montezuma Castle National Monument. Tutizgoot is an archeological monument and there is a visitor center and restroom facilities there. Tutzigoot is vegetated with typical high desert plants dominated by grasses, creosote, and Mesquite. Tavasci Marsh, on the other hand, is a lush desert marsh land dominated by marsh grasses and cat tail. This site is listed as the Tuzigoot Important Bird Area list of the Northern Arizona Audubon Society.

Administrative Agency: National Park Service.

Restrictions and fees: Tavsaci Marsh is open only to hikers; there are no fees; there is no camping.

Elevation: 3340′

Ease of road access: There are two access points where parking is available.

Ease of hiking access: Trails are clear and easily hiked All require a moderate decent into the marsh which is, of course, bottom land.

Approximate area size: 0.3 sq. miles

How to Get There:

Parking facilities: Excellent Frequency of use by public:Lightly used by hikers, most of which come in through Dead Horse Ranch State Park.
